Use your own OpenRouter key. Paste it once and you're all set. Your messages go straight from your Mac to the model — they never touch our servers, and you only pay for the tokens you use.

Always know what's next.

So you never miss a call or a meeting. Your day is ready before you type a letter.

Never wonder what's next. Your next meeting sits up top, counting down. Minutes before a Zoom, Teams or Meet call, Companion pops up and asks if you want to join.

Companion FAQ

Not here? [email protected]

What is Companion?
Companion for Basecamp is a native macOS app. It puts your Basecamp Docs & Files in Finder the way Dropbox or iCloud Drive do — and adds a warm, keyboard-first launcher for your whole workspace, a hotkey away. Press ⌥ Space to see your Inbox, recent projects, and every command: Add to Basecamp, Companion AI, Scratchpad, Calculator, My Schedule, and more.
Which platforms does it support?
macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later — built natively in SwiftUI for both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. It runs quietly in your menu bar, with no Dock icon (like Dropbox). There's no Windows or Linux build; on those, every Can Do tool still works at app.getcando.com in any modern browser.
How do I install it, and does it update itself?
Companion ships as a signed, notarized Mac app (a DMG you drag to Applications) and keeps itself current with built-in auto-updates. Get it from the Companion page — it runs on macOS 14 or later, on Apple silicon and Intel.
How does the Finder integration work?
Companion mounts your Basecamp Docs & Files as a drive in Finder using macOS File Provider. Files show up as cloud placeholders and download on demand when you open them. Drag a file in to upload it. Drag one to the Trash and it's archived in Basecamp — never permanently deleted. Pin anything with "Always Keep on Device," and choose exactly which projects sync.
What's in the launcher?
Hit ⌥ Space and you land on a glanceable home: live counts for Overdue / Due today / Unread / This week / Assigned / Mentions, a dock of quick actions, your Inbox (unread pings and chats — reply to chats right there), recent projects, and team activity. Start typing to run any command: Add to Basecamp, Companion AI, Scratchpad, Calculator, My Schedule, My Work, Clips, Speed Dial, Clipboard History, Emoji & GIF search, Color Picker, window management, and system commands. A Super Key (Caps Lock) gives you one-handed chords for Emoji, Clipboard, Clips, Speed Dial, and Scratchpad.
What is Companion AI?
A built-in AI chat with web search and a model picker — it defaults to Auto and can use Claude, GPT, Gemini and others. There are also AI quick actions on whatever text you've selected in any app: Fix Spelling & Grammar, Improve Writing, and Translate — corrected in place, without switching windows.
How do I sign in?
"Sign in with Can Do." Companion opens Can Do in your browser; you sign in there and approve your Mac — Companion never sees your password. Can Do is the identity layer that connects Basecamp behind the scenes and keeps your tokens fresh. You can switch between Basecamp accounts right from the launcher.
Is my Basecamp data safe?
Can Do handles sign-in and hands Companion short-lived Basecamp tokens — your password never touches the app. Files are cached locally in your protected user Library folder, and deleting a synced file archives it in Basecamp rather than destroying it. Companion talks to Basecamp for your data; nothing is mirrored to a third-party store.
How much is Companion?
Companion is included with every Can Do plan at no extra cost. If it's the only thing you want, it's also sold on its own for $79 a year. It is currently in beta and runs on macOS 14+ (Apple silicon & Intel). Questions? Email [email protected].
